Killer gets seven life sentences

-

THE MAN dubbed the “Century City killer” has received seven life sentences from the Western Cape High Court for the murder of women in Kensington, near Cape Town.

He was found guilty of 23 charges, including the rape and murder of four women who were found buried face down with their hands bound.

Kahangayi Sedumedi, a 35-year-old security guard, had been charged with six counts of attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances, three counts of kidnapping, nine counts of rape, one of assault, one of attempted rape and four counts of murder.

He was arrested in January last year after the naked bodies of women were discovered in a field along Acre Road near the Century City train station.

The State said Sedumedi had been forensically linked to the crimes through DNA and cellphone evidence.

He committed the crimes from November 2011 until his arrest.

“This is the longest sentence I have ever had to impose in 22 years,” said Judge President John Hlophe. – ANA
