City makes waves with free wi-fi roll-out

The city intended to have rolled out 750 wi-fi access points within three years.

“There are more areas that will be identified once more funds are made available,” she said.

Mthethwa said this initiative would allow more people in rural areas to get connected to the internet, and would help them in their everyday lives.

“Mobile users will receive 250 megabytes a day per device in the pilot phase. We are excited that this project is finally taking shape, and are positive that this will bring smiles to many Durbanites,” she added.

Equally excited is uMlazi resident Mduduzi Khumalo.

“Wi-fi is the new convenient source of connection, and the city’s decision is welcomed.
