Arrest in Ladysmith murder
A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Haroon Warasally, the Ladysmith businessman robbed, stabbed and set alight last Thursday.
The suspect, a security guard employed by Warasally, was arrested in Roosboom, Ladysmith, with Warasally’s cellphone and SIM card.
A second suspect is still at large and believed to have Warasally’s firearm.
Warasally, who ran Pelican Security, was found murdered on the N11 after his vehicle was discovered abandoned.
Police found his body at a hotel under renovation. It is believed Warasally had been taking two security guards to duty points for a shift change.
Abbas Warasally, the dead man’s brother, said he appreciated the swift arrest and hoped the second suspect would be apprehended soon.
“The other man poses a danger because he apparently has my brother’s firearm and is on the loose,” he said.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Shooz Magudulela, said investigations were continuing.
The suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on June 6 and was held in custody.
