A case of ‘it’s not my job’ as usual
I NEVER cease to be amazed at the illogical actions of the eThekwini Municipality.
After dodging a big pothole in Stapleton road (just after Kings Road) for a few weeks I took it upon myself to phone the city engineers department and received a reference number for my trouble.
Imagine my amazement when two days later I saw that it had been repaired, but my elation turned to disappointment when I saw that another pothole (albeit a smaller) some 10m away remained unrepaired.
Then I read City Watch (June 12) and learned that Stapleton Road is a provincial road and falls under the responsibility of the KZN department of transport.
Is it any wonder that our infrastructure continues to fall apart with attitudes like this?
Surely when a team goes out to fix a reported pothole they leave their blinkers at home and look around to see if there are any others to fix?
What seems ludicrous is that a road in the greater area of Pinetown apparently falls under the jurisdiction of another entity and our esteemed head of communication feels the need to say that “She cannot comment”.
The expression “it’s not my job” comes in handy!
Fortunately my employees do not suffer from the blinkered council approach and are happy and willing to tackle any job that I ask them to do, and they do it with a smile. TONY BALL Glenwood
