Telegu trio take on Hindi releases

-

THREE Telugu titles launched in India at the weekend, aiming to cash in on the August 15 Independence Day holiday despite stiff competition from high-profile Hindi releases Rustom and Mohenjo Daro.

Action-comedy-romance Babu Bangaram, which stars Victory Venkatesh, Nayanthara, Vennela Kishore and Brahmanandam, had the strongest opening, collecting an estimated 13.75 crore (R26 million) on Friday and Saturday in the Telugu states.

Action-comedy Thikka, which features Sai Dharam Tej, Larissa Bonesi and Mannara Chopra, opened on Saturday.

No figures were reported for first-time director Nishant Pudhari’s rural crime drama Bommala Ramaram, which probably did not have great expectations considering its cast of fresh faces and modest budget.

Written and directed by Dasari Maruthi, Babu Bangaram follows Venkatesh as Krishna, a kind hearted cop who resolves to help Sailaja (Nayanthara), whose father Sastry (Jayaprakash) is in hiding after witnessing a murder. The case brings Krishna into conflict with corrupt politician Puchappa (Posani Murali Krishna) and his accomplice Mallesh Yadav (Sampath Raj), who frames Sastry as the suspect.

The makers of Ram Charan’s Dhruva have released its first look as an Independence Day treat for the mega family fans.

Dhruva is being produced with a whopping budget by Allu Aravind under his banner Geetha Arts.

Dhruva is an official remake of the 2015 Tamil film Thani Oruvan written and directed by Mohan Raja.

Megapower star Ram Charan is playing the lead role, while Rakul Preet Singh appears as the female lead in the action thriller directed by Surender Reddy.
