DA silent on Malema’s rhetoric. Why?

-

YOUR front page article in the Sunday Tribune Herald headed “Tension rises after Verulam land invasion” and the report “Betrayed by the people she has helped” in the main section refers (Sunday Tribune, November 20).

The current brand of protests and threats by elements in our community are very disturbing and worrying.

The incidents in Puntan’s Hill and Verulam, where violent action was used, reflect a very dangerous forerunner of what might be in the future.

The possibility of a land invasion becoming a reality is daunting and could have serious repercussions.

While Julius Malema, the new marriage partner of the DA, spews rhetoric about taking over land from bona fide owners, the DA’s silence is deafening.

Racial tensions are heightening in a country where hope once reigned supreme.

The petrol bombing of an Indian family’s home in Puntan’s Hill suggests that we could expect more of the same.

The security of citizens is constitutionally guaranteed yet our authorities do not have the capacity or the ability to control a very volatile situation.

During the local government election, the DA, which begged for the Indian vote, forget that the very people who supported it are in the firing line from marauders who pay scant respect to human life.

Why the silence DA? Why are Malema’s statements not challenged with the same enthusiasm as the pursuit against President Jacob Zuma?

Haniff Hoosen, the DA’s mayoral candidate for eThekwini, boasted of a secure environment for citizens. Where is he now?

I am concerned that our politics is no more about citizens but about the pursuit of power and egos. And while the Indian community lent support to the DA in the local government elections, on a large scale, the DA’s silence on matters that require its attention, is a gross betrayal of election promises. eThekwini staffer goes extra mile

I WOULD like to pass on my appreciation to the wonderful customer service at Highveld Body Corporate by a Mr Kweyama on behalf of eThekwini Municipality Roads and Stormwater unit.

A few years ago maintenance was carried out on the pavement outside our complex. The patching up was shoddy and resulted in potholes at the entrance. This was shown to Mr Kweyama last Saturday when roadworks were being carried out a few metres away. He not only listened to my complaints but went the extra mile in offering not just to patch up the potholes but resurface the area while working on the parallel road.

Thank you Mr Kweyama. Thank you eThekwini Municipality for having such brilliant, well-mannered and efficient staff in your employ. I commend Mr Kweyama for any internal award. Please pass on my thanks to him and his colleagues. CLINTON RAMKILAWAN
