Busy road poses danger to pupils
head Tozi Mthethwa said speed humps were evaluated and installed in terms of a council-approved, traffic-calming policy that took into account the number of accidents, the environment and the road category.
“This road will be assessed. Most roads that border schools and egress points have speed humps, unless the road is a high-order route,” she said.
Mthethwa said where speed humps couldn’t be installed, additional road markings and signage could be put up to help prevent accidents.
Road safety was everyone’s responsibility, she said, appealing to motorists to exercise caution. “Ultimately, the community and road users need to respect the rules of the road and not speed as well as make speeding an unacceptable behaviour,” said Mthethwa.
