Western Province dominate SA schools tournament
THE power of Western Province schools water polo was clearly in evidence after the quarter-finals of the South African Schools tournament taking place at various venues around Durban yesterday.
The quarter-finals were completed yesterday morning in all age groups up to the under 19 and the Western Province, Central Gauteng and KZN teams were prom- inent, but the Western Cape sides were overwhelmingly dominant.
The under 19 tournaments saw the top two teams from each of the round robin pools going directly into the semifinals.
In a remarkable statistic, there was a Western Province team in the semi-finals of every single age group tournament in both the boys and girls events.
In the boys U13, U14, U16 and U19, and the girls U13 and U14, the WP A and B teams are both in the play-offs for a spot in the finals.
The semi-finals were due to be completed late last night and the finals will take place today.
