YUGESHEN RAMSAMY

Looks great and sounds even better

- ASHWEN SINGH

THE VW Polo is popular with Durban “petrol-heads” and street racers – because of its distinctive European styling, impressive performance and potential for scaleability.

As such, the new Polo could indeed be a worthy successor to the legendary CitiGolf.

Yugeshen Ramsamy is the 27-yearold motoring enthusiast who owns this week’s featured vehicle, a 2015 Volkswagen Polo TSi.

Ramsamy, an accountant, lives in Phoenix, north of Durban. He says of his choice of vehicle: “I always wanted the VW Polo 6.”

As one would expect with regard to most new vehicles still under a factory warranty, Ramsamy chose to keep his car mechanically standard.

However, this Polo has the handling merits of a VW factory-customised 25mm lowered suspension with Eibach springs. A set of 17-inch HRE Mesh Narrow and Wides mag wheels is mated to Falken Tyres 205/40/17 rubbers features.

The exterior boasts a carbon fibre boot spoiler, a xenon lighting kit and a slimline spoiler on the front lip.

For Ramsamy, sound was always going to be a priority.

“My first modification was to the sound system. My cousin, Trishen, helped me get the right equipment.

“I entered a sound competition for the first time and pushed 142dB,” he said with pride.

His Polo impresses acoustically, featuring a “bass-pounding” pair of XTarga 10-inch DVC sub-woofers and a Targa DA Brat amplifier, wired to what was an already impressive factoryfitted audio system.

The sound installation most recently clinched Ramsamy first place in the T3 Events and Motor show in Phoenix.

It was not disclosed how much was spent upgrading this VW. SERVICE PROVIDERS: G Force Tyres. Auto Technics. Max Motorsport.
