Property valuations

-

THE municipal executive committee has extended the period for the lodging of objections to property valuations.

In terms of the Municipality Property Rates Act, municipalities are required to revalue properties every four years for rating purposes.

During the executive committee meeting held this week, it was stated that the initial closing date for objections was March 31.

The period was then extended to May 2 before being extended by another two weeks.

The deadline for ethekwini residents to submit objections to the General Valuation Roll 2017 has been extended to May 16.

The municipality advertised the third General Valuation Roll on February 10.

The act requires that the roll must be open for inspection for not less than 30 days from the date of the last advertisement.

ethekwini mayor Zandile Gumede said they had worked hard to ensure the valuations were a fair and transparent process.

She said residents who were unhappy after inspecting the roll had the opportunity to lodge an objection.

Customers are advised that staff are situated on the ground floor of the 75 Dr Langalibalele Street building. They will accept objection forms and deal with any queries arising from the valuation process.

Objection forms may also be handed in at any of ethekwini Municipality’s Sizakala Centres or can be scanned and e-mailed to val.roll@durban. gov.za
