Stealth used to give Polo more muscle
THE VW Polo is no stranger to Durban’s growing community of petrol-heads and street racers.
Akash Hansraj is the 32-year-old owner of this week’s featured vehicle, a 2006 Volkswagen Polo hatch.
Hansraj, who lives in Shallcross, south of Durban, works for a leading appliance manufacturer.
His interests include audio fitments and philanthropy. He is also a member of the popular VW Illest Owners car club.
His Polo features minimalist but effective performance enhancements such as the installation of a Stealth performance engine management software to optimise performance on the fuel-injected 1600 motor.
It’s hard to find an enthusiast without a lowered vehicle. This Polo is no different – it has a 40mm drop courtesy of a set of Koenic coilover springs. The suspension is mated to a set of 18-inch BBS mag wheels and 215/35/18 rubbers.
The exterior has vinyl body wrap with beading and rear-view mirrors in baby blue. The roof is wrapped in gloss black vinyl, giving the illusion of a panoramic glass roof. A vinyl splash features on the rear fender.
Customised black leather seats with baby blue detailing on the headrests and side panels make for a sporty interior.
A rocking sound installation seems to be a rite of passage for most VW owners and this one features an impressive 142.8db accoustic system comprising a Pioneer double din DVD head unit, Star sound pre-amplifier, two pairs of door mid-range speakers and a quad of super tweeters run by a 3000W four-channel amplifier wired to a pair of Targa 12-inch subwoofers.
A duo of 8-inch flared ported boxes are run by an XTC limited edition 7 000D mono-block amplifier and a zerogauge wiring installation.
It was not disclosed how much was spent upgrading this Polo. SERVICE PROVIDER: SDL Vinyl Wraps and Car Customising.
