Make bad drivers pay for life

-

THE letter from Derek Krummeck of umhlanga, where he lists a number of suggestions to halt the carnage by taxis on our roads (Sunday Tribune, April 30) refers.

All I can say to the gentleman is: keep on dreaming! The government does not have the courage to take on the taxi industry. They are s#*t skrik taxi operators.

Considering the increasing of the frequency of lawless driving, I believe criminal sanction will not suffice.

Jailing an offender does not cure the injuries of victims or bring back to life those taken in their prime.

Legislation is needed to make people who are found guilty of negligent or reckless driving pay compensation to the families of the victims they have killed or injured for the rest of their lives.

Also, if the employers of negligent taxi, bus and truck drivers are held liable for the negligent acts of employees, a more responsible attitude will result.

These laws would lead to fewer accidents and more mature conduct on our roads. JUANITA SINGH
