Do away with quota system

“UKZN syndicate bust” was the headline in the Sunday Tribune.

That the couple who were arrested were from India was not surprising. It does not take a rocket scientist to work out this embarrassing, untenable situation.

Thank you, Sunday Tribune, for exposing the rot. The parents whose children have been refused admission to medical school are desperate and prepared to pay up to R500000 because of the quota system.

If and when the quota system is done away with, we will not hear of medicine and other science places being sold.

It is dehumanising for aspirant students when they should be selected on merit.

We need private medical schools so that students can pursue their quest to become doctors.
