‘He stole money’

-

THE former girlfriend of Nino “Mkhonyovu” Mbatha, the fake traditional healer who handed himself over to police telling them he was tired of eating human flesh, has distanced herself from him.

Lindiwe Khumalo, who is also a sangoma, said she and Mbatha had separated months ago, after he allegedly stole R500 from her house.

“I never saw him again after he left with my money in his possession. Out of fear, I have moved out of the area,” said Khumalo.

She met Mbatha in January, but he never spoke about his family’s whereabouts and became agitated when she probed him.

“We had many arguments over his reluctance to find work. I worked as a domestic worker and bought food. I once got him to work for a day when my bosses needed a gardener.”

Khumalo insisted she now had nothing to do with him and never knew he was “this evil”.

“I only heard on the news that he was accused of eating people. During my threemonth stay with him, I was never suspicious about him until he stole my money and fled.”

Neighbours near where Mbatha previously lived with his girlfriend claimed that having him in the area was hell because he was always in the company of thugs.

Nino Mbatha’s former landlord, Zumile Mbatha, said he knew the fake traditional healer through his girlfriend (Khumalo).

“I had nothing to do with him. I was shocked to find him in my other place. He was living there without my permission and I asked him to leave,” said the landlord.
