THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents Ncamisa Nqana, on Wednesday, August 30 at 6pm.

The vocalist, 24, from Mamelodi, started classical vocal training in 2006, while at Mamelodi High School. She went to MC art to study music and joined a choir that worked with Don Laka. She later worked with Abe Sibiya and started singing as a profession­al backing vocalist, working with Judith Sephuma, Louis Mhlanga, Dr Sello Galane.

She then went to Tshwane University of Technology in 2011 to study Jazz and Popular music. Her style of music is influenced by jazz artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Lindiwe Maxolo, Bheki Mseleku, Herbie Tsoaeli and Miriam Makeba. She is currently a vocal teacher at Simply Purely Music in Tembisa.

Nqana was in the top 20 in the ESP Young Legends 2016. She performs her own compositio­ns at various musical events such as the South African State Theatre and Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.

Join Nqana on vocals with Sanele Phakathi on Piano, Dalisu Ndlazi on Bass, Tshiamo Nkoane or Bucco Xaba and Linda Sikhakhane on tenor Sax. Featured Artists: Keorapetse Kolwane – Vocals, Josie Matabola – Vocals, Ayanda Thango – Vocals, Thabo Sikhakhane – Trumpet, at The Centre for Jazz and Popular music.

Level 2, Shepstone Building, UKZN Howard College Campus, on Wednesday.

Doors open at 5.30pm show starts at 6pm. R70 for general admission, R45 pensioners, R20 for students.
