‘Slow down and take that leap of faith’

- VEANTHA NAIDOO

SASHNEE Chunder developed a passion for story-telling from an early age and can now add children’s author to her list of accolades.

She launched her children’s book, Slow Down Little Tortoise, which is being sold online, in February.

Chunder, 34, is the financial manager for Mustang Spur and owns two Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts franchise stores.

“In my teens, I favoured poetry for expression. Later I wrote plays for children as part of the spiritual curriculum at our ashram. Like most people, I lacked the confidence to pursue my dream of writing a book. But we have to learn to silence our critics, especially those in the head, and take a leap of faith.”

Chunder, who has a Bcom degree in finance and management, says many remarkable women have defied the odds to achieve their goals. “I read their books and immerse myself in the belief that anything is possible. Taking it a day at a time and writing for 20 minutes a day on average, I achieved my goal.”

She says being a mother is the most challenging and rewarding role. She has two children.

To her, Women’s Month means honouring the thousands before her who fought oppression.

“The path that lies before today’s women often seems daunting, but we would do well to remember and draw from the strength and wisdom of our elders.”
