Glitter puts a shimmer in fashion

- GERRY CUPIDO

JUST when you thought glitter had finally been left behind in the 1980s and now only reserved for kiddies parties and decor, it makes a comeback on the makeup scene.

Glitter is once again having its moment in the spotlight, in all its sparkling glory.

It first popped up on the hair scene when stylists sprinkled it on the roots. Then we saw it glimmering on eyebrows.

During recent fashion weeks, designers used it every which way in their autumn winter collections – from glitter lips at Charlotte Olympia to foiled eyes at Markus Lupfer.

At the Burberry show, glitter tears diffused from the outer corners of the eyes and across cheekbones.

For Giambattista Valli, messy eyelids were all too obvious. Instead, glitter-lined brows were the look, adding touching sparkles to the furrows of models like Gigi Hadid. This is a great way for beginners to subtly try out the trend. Think of it as the ultimate in shimmering highlight.

So how do you translate this sparkling runway look to everyday life? The first rule, as with many makeup trends, less is more. If you doing a glitter eye, there’s no need to apply it to the entire eyelid. Add a touch of shimmer to either the inner or outer corner. A glitter liquid liner, in gold or silver, is a sexy alternative to your usual black. A hint of bronze shimmer at the outer tips of your eyebrows is a quick way to add sparkle.

The glitter trend isn’t just reserved for the eyes. Lips can get the disco ball treatment too. Again, not your entire mouth. Dab a bit on your bottom lip or on the middle of your top lip.

Work this trend into your New Year’s eve party look and you’re good to go!
