Scrapping of ANN7 cause for concern

-

WE SOUTH Africans celebrated a disaster-free transfer of leadership at the national conference of the ruling party in December 2017, despite fear-mongering in the general media.

What made me uneasy, was the celebration of the same event by the white monopoly media alongside us.

The scrapping of the ANN7 channel gives credence to our sense of foreboding. This brazen move by Naspers clearly shows us media censorship is alive and well.

Alternative viewpoints to that projected by our monopoly capital biased media was always a thorn in the flesh for those who pushed the capitalist agenda, but their boldness after the Nasrec outcome gives us cause for concern.

The patronising, “Muzorewa option” is that Multichoice will now search for a “black” media company to replace ANN7.

This is insulting. How “black” will this new company have to be? The last time I checked, Mzwanele Manyi was black. Does his company qualify?

Probably not, since he has a mind of his own and will not serve the interest of white monopoly media. He will need to be a compliant “Uncle Tom” ready to read from the Naspers script to qualify. Sorry Mzwanele, we are back to an era where differing with the capitalistic agenda is undesirable and if you do so while being black, it is taken as arrogance. LOUIS ENOCK Merewent
