DHS Rhythm need to fine-tune their game

- THAHIR ASMAL

LAST weekend’s KZNCU Premier League served-up some interesting results, sprucing-up the top of the table.

After a recent string of impressive results, Chatsworth Sporting shot to the top by beating African Warriors.

They replaced Crusaders, who lost to Clares.

Berea Rovers, who are third, ensured they stayed within striking distance with a victory over Delta.

At the bottom of the table,

DHS Rhythm collapsed in another embarrassing defeat. They remain rock bottom with just one win this season.

Their 12th defeat of the campaign came at the hands of King Cetshwayo who posted a total of 108 at Addison Park and were still able to secure a 68 win.

DHS were rattled by Dolphins pace bowler Daryn Dupavillon (6/14) and were bowled out for 40.

“It was another game where we thought we had a genuine chance of winning but let it slip,” said club boss Mags Reddy. “I don’t know if it was stage fright, but again we were not up for the challenge.

“It has been a roller-coaster last 18 months for Rhythm, who won the Challenge League last year to gain promotion to the Premier League.

“At the end of the season, we decided to keep faith in our youngsters, but their lack of experience at this level has made things difficult for us,” Reddy said.

While Abdul Hack Razak and Shaldon Mungroo have produced excellent performances with bat and ball respectively, the team has struggled to play as a unit.

Reddy said: “Management has been discussing our predicament for the past few weeks and we do not want to throw in the towel.”

With just five points on the board and seven games left, the Durban North outfit will have to produce some minor miracles to survive.

“We obviously cannot recruit players from other teams at this stage of the season, but we are looking at bringing in a few guys who are not currently playing, to bolster our batting line-up,” Reddy said.
