Food in SA not checked
THE world’s worst listeria outbreak is affecting South Africa and four other countries.
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has taken steps to advise the public not to eat the products, but why did he not do more to raise awareness.
The outbreak is a result of inadequate reporting requirements to government, insufficient co-ordination of its departments and a failure to properly communicate to South Africans how to minimise getting sick.
There are clearly huge cracks in the systems meant to keep our food safe to eat. South Africans need to know how this is being managed, from a public health perspective, not a political, economic or other perspective. NAZNEEN MOTALA
