‘Fab four’ to woo Durban audience

- KARINDA JAGMOHAN

IN 2015, a band of four musicians took to the Maldives with a flirtatious song about how they lost their hearts to a girl with beautiful eyes.

The video went viral and the group has since become the biggest boyband in India and are set to perform at the Wave House in Durban next month as part of their world tour.

Sanam, or the “fab four”, rose to fame on the back off their Youtube music videos, which are modern renditions of classical Bollywood music. Their Maldives hit, Gulabi Aankhen has been viewed over 68 million times on Youtube, and the band is among India’s top 10 digital performance artists.

The group is referred to as “India’s One Direction” and is made up of lead vocalist Sanam Puri, lead guitarist Samar Puri, bass guitarist Venky S, and drummer Keshav Dhanraj.

“They have millions of fans across the world and made headlines when they became the first Indian group to have three million subscribers on Youtube,” said Shevaal Singh, spokesperson for the upcoming concert, which is to be hosted by Zee TV, Panache Promotion and Events & BU Media.

Sanam has been known for incorporating the lyrics of old Bollywood music with pop rock, using a variety of instruments.

The group has also recorded tracks for The Amazing Spider-man and Hasee Toh Phasee.

Singh added: “They promise fans, both young and old, an unforgettable evening comprising their latest hits as well as some timeless favourites.”

Tickets for the Sanam shows at the Wave Park in Durban on April 6 and 7, are available at R150 from Computicket outlets.
