Ferrell hurt in crash

ALISO VIEJO: Actor Will Ferrell was treated by paramedics after sustaining minor injuries in a crash on a Los Angeles freeway.

Ferrell was believed to have been in a limousine SUV with three others when a vehicle veered into their lane. The car hit the rear right side of the SUV, causing it lose control, hit the centre divider and overturn.

Orange County Fire Authority’s Captain Larry Kurtz said the three men in the SUV had minor injuries, while a 27-year-old woman had critical injuries. The driver of the car was not hurt.

Park lions killed

KAMPALA: A pride of lions died from suspected poisoning in one of Uganda’s major protected areas, a wildlife official said on Friday.

Eleven lions were found dead in the popular Queen Elizabeth National Park, said Jossy Muhangi, a spokespers­on for the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

The deaths were a “big blow” to the park, which depended heavily “on promises to tourists that they are likely to see lions”, he said.

The lions were believed to have been poisoned by herdsmen after attacking livestock.

Man shoots at teen

ROCHESTER HILLS: A retired white Detroit firefighte­r is charged with assault with intent to murder after a shot was fired at a black teen, who police say knocked on the door of the man’s home to ask directions to school.

Jeffery Zeigler, 53, was arraigned on Friday.

He was arrested on Thursday after a woman told 911 her husband had chased a black male who tried to break in. Oakland County sheriff ’s deputies later learned that a shot had been fired at 14-year-old Brennan Walker.

Elephant saver dies

NAIROBI: A Kenya-based wildlife organisati­on said prominent conservati­onist Daphne Sheldrick died on Thursday at the age of 83.

Sheldrick received global attention for her work raising more than 200 orphaned baby elephants. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust said “more than

100 orphaned elephants are now living a wild life, with 29 known wild-born babies”.

In 2006 Queen Elizabeth appointed Sheldrick Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
