KRIBEN GOVENDER

Hustling hard with a pavement pounder

- ASHWEN SINGH

THE VW Polo was introduced to the South African market a few years prior to the millennium.

It has since grown in popularity to become one of the top-selling hatchbacks in the country.

For “petrolheads” the Polo boasts, perhaps most importantly, high “street cred” and the prospect of virtually limitless performance scalability.

Kriben Govender is the 26-year-old owner of this week’s fabulous featured ride, a cool 2009 Volkswagen Polo 1.4i.

Govender, who works as a supervisor at a local retail company, lives in Phoenix.

His hobbies and interests include soccer and attending car shows.

Mechanically, Govender’s VW Polo was kept standard. Performance-wise, it has the adequately-powered 1400cc factory-fitted fuel-injected power plant.

In contrast to the rather “vanilla” mechanical set-up, the exterior boasts a Cupra front lip and sporty boot spoiler, while the car’s low-slung coil over suspension is fittingly mated to a set of popular 17-inch Lenzo mag wheels, teamed with a set of 185/35/17-inch rubbers in the front and 195/40/17 at the rear.

No Polo is complete without a rocking sound system and this one is definitely no exception. It rocks out with the quality likes of a Sony Xplod head unit, a set of Pioneer 6x9s, a pair of Pioneer super tweeters and a duo of Targa Comp subwoofers.

The installation is wired to an Audiobank 2 000W amplifier.

Govender is a proud member of the popular, frequently referenced

HLR (Hustle

Loyalty Respect) performance car club, a local collective of likeminded automotive enthusiasts.
