Love’s wings let you soar over obstacles

ADILA Patel, 25, a senior cabin crew official on Fly Dubai, and

Adnaan Hassiem, 27, a pilot, both living in Dubai and previously from Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively, married on February 26 at the Makaranga Garden Lodge in Kloof.

HOW WE MET

I won tickets from a radio station to a foam party in Abu Dhabi in 2012, where I met Adnaan. We dated for two years before getting engaged in 2014.

THE PROPOSAL AND WEDDING

On New Year’s Eve, we were at the Burj Khalifa to usher in 2015. As the fireworks went off at midnight, I found him on one knee proposing. WEDDING BLACK BOOK

BIGGEST CHALLENGE

After we met, Adnaan decided to focus on getting his commercial pilot’s licence in Cape Town. Being apart for three years was unbearable, but this was his dream and I supported him. Fittings for his wedding suit and co-ordinating the wedding had to be done over Skype or when he flew to Dubai once a month.

VIEWS ON LOVE AND MARRIAGE

Mix an impossible schedule with impossible ambition. Add a few drops of wanderlust, a couple of tablespoons of commuting and you have an allover-the-map, jet-lagged girl and guy no one can keep up with. We’ll see where destiny takes us.
