SARVESH BASSUEDEW & YVETTE BALRAJ

When true love can conquer everything

-

SARVESH Bassuedew and Yvette Balraj, both 25 from Montford, Chatsworth, wed on April 8 at the Amanzimtoti Civic Hall.

HOW WE MET

Sarvesh and I met in 2008 at Montarena Secondary School. A year later, my house caught fire and I suffered third degree burns.

I felt weak at school and, despite the burns, he still asked me the same question he had been asking since the day we met – if I would be his girlfriend. His love gave me a purpose in life.

THE PROPOSAL AND WEDDING

After a four-year long-distance relationship, as I was studying in Cape Town, he gave me a teddy bear on my 19th birthday.

The bear had a box with a ring in it which he said was his promise to honour our relationship.

We had a beautiful wedding at the Amanzimtoti Civic Hall.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE

Our biggest challenge was trying to sustain a long-distance relationship with many people around us asking many questions about our commitment.

As we grew older, our personalities changed but we realised our love was far more powerful than our differences.

VIEWS ON LOVE AND MARRIAGE

Marriage is about understanding and tolerance. It’s about guiding each other and being able to take on any role to care for the other. True love is experienced only once in a lifetime. So, if found, love truly and faithfully.
