Concert aims to bring peace and harmony

- ALYSSIA BIRJALAL

SOUTH Africa’s internationally recognised carnatic vocalist, Karthiegasen Pillay, will render bhajans and kirtans at the Veeraboga Emperumal Temple in Tongaat from 1pm to 3pm today.

Pillay will be performing at the event that is a fund-raising initiative of the Mohanji Foundation, a global organisation committed to spreading peace, and unconditional love. Apart from the entertainment, the event also promises to be spiritually rewarding for the audience, according to the organisers.

Pillay, who was excited about performing at the show, said there was nothing like the feeling one gets when they are connected to music.

“In the cultural world, music is the quickest way to realisation. Nothing else matters when your mind is focused on singing to

God (the divine). We have a great show put together for the community by the devotees of the foundation. And together with students from the Natya Ananda Dance Academy, we are certain the audience will be transported into another world for a few hours,” Pillay said.

Pillay, who has been singing for more than 47 years, said the show would be about interacting with the audience.

“It’s culturally oriented and I’m a part of it because I believe that if we all clap our hands together in harmony we can achieve anything. We need to spread love,” he said.

Tickets cost R50 and are available at the door.
