The lives of the British royalty, to Americans, must be reminiscent of movie plots which no doubt led to the matrimonial cakes ending up as part of an auction focused on Hollywood film stars.
Topping the bill among the regal lots will be a slice of cake from the ill-fated wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana on July 29, 1981. The cake is in a white box and wrapped in a paper doily. It is estimated to sell for up to $1 200 (over R151 000), but will probably fetch much more as Julien’s estimates tend to be conservative.
The marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011 was global TV’S most watched wedding yet and now – three children later – a slice from their royal wedding cake (estimate: $600$800) offered with the wedding programme should also set bidders’ pulses racing.
The slice of fruitcake, made by renowned UK producer of luxury hand-crafted cakes Fiona Cairns, is in the presentation tin presented to guests and dignitaries at the wedding which took place on April 29, 2011.
Other highlights include a royal wedding cake slice from the marriage of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker MAY 20 2018 Bowles on April 9, 2005 (estimate: $600-$800); a slice of royal wedding cake from the marriage of Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson at Buckingham Palace on July 23, 1986 (estimate: $600-$800); and a slice of royal wedding cake from the marriage of Princess Anne to Captain Mark Phillips on November 14, 1973. This 45-year-old slice has an estimate of $300-$500.
