No critical thought

-

LALLO M Hariram’s letter,

“We should look to Zulu customs, sharia laws”, in the Sunday Tribune on May 20, refers.

Is this individual serious?

I don’t know much about Zulu customs, but I do know about his sharia law which is incompatible with the UN declaration of human rights and with our own progressive constitution.

Critical thought is rejected in sharia law, but not in our constitution.

Torture is allowed and hence a woman can be stoned to death. Offenders can have arms and limbs chopped off as punishment.

Only Muslims have the right to life and also, there is one law for Muslims, another law for infidels. The notion of equality before the law is rejected.

Children can be brides, and this can have the backing of the law. A Muslim woman cannot marry an infidel, but a Muslim man can. Again, the notion of equality does not exist.

A victim of rape has to have four witnesses because, as one cleric in Pakistan said, DNA is not sufficient evidence.

Apostates can be singled out for death by a fatwa and there is no such thing as freedom of speech.

Loyalty to the nation is rejected as believers seek an international identity based on faith.

Such inferior laws cannot be reconciled with the UN declaration of human rights.

Hariram should move to a Muslim country.
