Woman sues fraternity over sex video

WASHINGTON: An Arizona student is suing a Florida fraternity, claiming that nude photos and videos taken of her in sexual acts were distributed electronically without her consent, including on Facebook.

Kathryn Novak filed the lawsuit this week against the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at the University of Central Florida, where she had been having a long-distance relationship with a Delta Sigma Phi member. She is being represented by Michael Avenatti, who has shot to prominence through his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against US President Donald Trump.

Novak’s relationship with Brandon Simpson began in October, during which they’d see each other a couple of times a month and communicate regularly via text messages and e-mail, the lawsuit states.

He forwarded a recording he took of a sexual encounter with Novak to at least five of the frat’s members, the lawsuit states. The video was disseminated to be viewed during their fraternity house meeting.

The lawsuit says more than 200 students received the video, but no one from the fraternity ever requested for Simpson to delete or remove the video.

Novak discovered the video existed and had been shared in March, the lawsuit says. She also found out members of the fraternity had a Facebook page called the “Dog Pound”, which they used to post nude videos and pictures of women and others in sexual acts, the lawsuit says. It seeks at least $75 000 (R1.007 million) in damages. – The Washington Post
