Bash With Tash fights school bullies

- ALYSSIA BIRJALAL

LOCAL comedian and “Langada” queen, Natashia Munian, popularly known as “Bash With Tash” has decided to use her standing in society to make positive changes.

Her starting point is schools. With suicide and bullying rates on the rise, these have been the driving force behind the Bash With Tash leadership programme she launched.

The programme will see Tash visit schools to motivate children to bring out their best.

“We looked at the suicide rate and the growing number of schoolyard bust-ups and incidents of bullying. It’s scary. Kids are becoming bullies and some of their targets turn to suicide because they feel helpless. We want to change the mindset,” said Tash.

She was bullied at school because she was overweight, so the issue is close to her heart.

So far, she has interacted with pupils from Palmview Secondary and Grandmore Primary schools in Phoenix.

She said her routine at schools usually included comedy, motivational talks and working with children from each grade about appropriate behaviour.

She said the initiative had been well received by parents. She had also tried to draw teachers into the programme.

“It all hinges on a child’s upbringing. Some workingclass parents are too busy to get involved in their children’s lives. Next we will introduce parents to my talks so that we can fix this problem,” she said.

“I know it is impossible for me to reach every school kid, but if I can make a difference in the life of one child, that would be a success for me,” said Tash.
