-

VASTU Shastra has become an integral aspect in planning everything – from building a home or office to matters of money, health and married life.

Why not? Seeing the benefits of the architectural practice, more people are following it.

It has been around since the days of Ramayana, Mahabharata and in even the Indus valley civilisation.

The practice is key to harmony between man and nature.

For love

Marriage is a sacred institution and everyone longs for a happy, peaceful married life. However, the number of divorce cases has increased as a result of changing lifestyles and independent thinking.

A major cause of marital strife can be negligence of Vaastu principles. Conflicts between couples and adjustment problems can arise due to the placement of objects in a home that is not in accordance with Vastu Shastra.

To maintain marital harmony, it’s essential that your living area be Vastu-compliant. An imbalance caused by any element of the cosmos can create disturbances.

Our culture bestowed us with the architectural practice of Vastu Shastra to ensures the environment is conducive to love and a happy marriage.

The bedroom is the most important place in which to instil faith and love in a marital bond.

So it’s important to apply Vastu rules in the bedroom. For marital bliss

Your bedroom should always be in the south-west or north-west as this will cultivate love and understanding by partners. The other option is south or west.

Newly-weds should avoid the north-east.

The bedroom should also be a regular shape – rectangular or square.

The bed should be comfortable and of good quality.

The room should be decorated in light shades and uncluttered to ensure a soothing ambience and make it conducive to love.

Dark colours such as black, dark brown or grey should not be used on the bedroom walls.

The wife should sleep on the left side of the bed and the husband on the right. This will ensure a smooth, loving relationship.

Red or elements of the colour should be added to the bedroom. It’s the symbol of love and will ensure a relationship blossoms.

The mattress on the bed should be double or larger, to instil harmony and positivity in a relationship.

No electrical gadgets should be kept in your bedroom. Keep all of them, including your laptops, outside the bedroom.

It will give you time to spend with each other, away from office work.

The electrical gadgets are known to increase tension and rifts between partners. Still if you must have them, keep them in your cupboard.

The most important step in a relationship is communication and it can be achieved by simply keeping your bedroom illuminated. Keep your room well lit for a flow of communication and unflinching love.

The bedroom should be cleared of clutter from time to time.

Avoid a bed reflecting in a mirror – rather fix the mirror in the bedroom in such a way that your bed doesn’t reflect in it.

Paintings that symbolise death, quarrels, violence or any negative aspect of life should be avoided.

Never sleep under a beam or cupboard. It causes unnecessary pressure and is detrimental to your health.

In line with Feng Shui, always try to beautify the bedroom. You can keep ornamental love-birds (a pair) or a picture of peacocks.

Medicines should not be stored in your bedroom.

A husband should give his wife flowers often. This will keep the spark in the marriage and strengthen Venus in your horoscope. In Vedic astrology, Venus is considered the natural ruler of love.

Astrologically, if you’re Hindu, fast on every Monday of Sawan month.

Special fasts are recommended for married women, such as the Karwa Chauth.
