How to heal without medication – just learn to say ‘Om’…

-

QUESTION: I cannot concentrate in school and forget easily. How can I improve my memory without taking medication?

I am giving you a spiritual remedy to make your mind strong and improve your memory. You should start “Om meditation”. 1. Om – the absolute sound: Om (Aum) is one of the most sacred sounds in the Sanskrit language, said to be the sound or vibration of the universe itself. Science proves that life is made up of energies (vibration), from the smallest particle to the movement of galaxies. Mindexpanding adepts have passed on the knowledge that if one were to step outside of the universe and listen in, Om would be the sound that is heard.

2. Chanting Om:

It should be recited slowly to put you into a naturally meditative state. You are not just reciting a sound or phrase, you are creating a vibration within the body, mind and soul. There are many ways of chanting

Om. Since you are new to “Om chanting” do it in the following way:

The approximate time for chanting an Om (Aum) mantra is 10 seconds. Here is a breakdown to help you.

A – 2.5 seconds (pronounced “oo”), with rounded open lips.

U – 2.5 seconds, partially close the lips.

M – 5 seconds, with lips completely closed.

Take a deep breath (inhale) and with one continuous exhalation, chant Oooooooo… Hhhhhhhhhh…mmmmmmm… (Aauummmm). Each breath should last as long as possible. 3. Practice tips:

Sit in a comfortable, crosslegged position, keep your spine straight and body relaxed. Inhale deeply and chant while exhaling.

While chanting, focus your mind on the Ajna Chakra (third eye, in-between the eyebrows).

If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to focus on the mantra and Ajna Chakra.

Practise daily for one minute and gradually increase to five minutes or more.

4. Om – the power of chanting: At the start and end of a yoga class or meditation practice, the Om mantra is usually chanted three times. The sound vibration of the mantra purifies the energy of the room or space and the energy of the person chanting. The sound vibration resonates throughout the body, creating a calm and peaceful state.

When you are feeling down, sit and chant “Om” loudly, with long breaths for a few minutes.

This practise will relax every atom in the body, making the mind serene, full of lightness, vitality and strength. You can also repeat the mantra mentally, this has purifying effects.

5. There are many ways to chant Om (Aum):

a. If chanted loudly, you will feel the omnipotence of the Supreme.

b. If chanted softly, you will feel the delight of the Supreme.

c. If chanted silently, you will feel the peace of the Supreme.

It is best to chant loudly so its sound can vibrate in your physical ears and fill your body. This will convince your outer mind and give you a greater sense of joy and achievement.

Chanting aloud also touches and calls forth the cosmic vibration of the Supreme sound.

Remember, the “M” sound should last at least three times longer than the “AU”.

6. Advantages and effects of Om (Omkar) chanting:

Chanting the Om mantra for five minutes daily can produce a remarkable effect.

It helps you to calm the mind, settle the thought process and realise the self.

The sound of Om produces instant positive vibrations and takes the listener into a state of mental stillness. It purifies the atmosphere.

Proper chanting of Om is also a form of yoga. It moves energy from the lower chakras of the body up to the highest chakra or energy centre (the sahasrara chakra at the crown of the head). 1. It cleanses the mind.

2. It controls the emotions.

3. It improves the concentration, memory and understanding capacity.

4. It relaxes you physically, mentally and emotionally.

5. It charges the surrounding atmosphere.

6. It’s the best exercise for the mind and helps with depression. It leaves you in a happy state of mind.
