Trump brushes off Obama comment

PRESIDENT Donald Trump has brushed off former first lady Michelle Obama’s utterance that she can’t forgive him for campaign rhetoric that potentially put her family at risk.

Trump instead pointed to former president Barack Obama, telling reporters outside the White House on Friday, “She talked about safety. What he did to our military made this country very unsafe for you and you and you”. He didn’t explain what he meant. In her memoir, Obama says Trump’s rhetoric barely concealed “bigotry and xenophobia” which was “dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wing nuts and kooks”. She writes, “Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this, I’d never forgive him.”

In the book, due to be released in the US on Tuesday, she openly talks about everything from growing up in Chicago to confronting racism in public life and becoming the country’s first black first lady. She also reflects on early struggles in her marriage as Obama began his political career. In an interview aired on ABC’S

last week, Obama said she felt “lost and alone” after suffering a miscarriage 20 years ago and underwent in vitro fertilisation to conceive her two daughters. She said she felt like she “failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them”.
