Tracks to include in your summer soundtrack

It’s that time of the year when everyone is getting their holiday play-list ready. picks the songs that will start parties and make us spend hours on the dance floor

- Lutho Pasiya

THE festive season is about to begin and everyone is looking for an excuse to, have some fun, so hit the beach and, of course, listen to music.

It is also a time when people start thinking about what’s going to be the song of the summer.

As always, it’s not easy picking the songs we will be dancing up a storm to and this year is particularly difficult because every genre has thrown its hat in the song of the summer ring. From house, hip-hop, gospel, gqom’ and kwaito, people want music that makes them dance and can be the soundtrack to their memories and luckily, there are some tracks doing that right now.

Here are the tracks that will be getting you grooving this summer and which are serious contenders for song of the summer.

Prince Kaybee feat Busiswa & TNS –

Prince Kaybee is a hitmaker. Whatever he touches turns into gold since he burst on to the scene with 2014’s Wa Jelwa. His collaboration with the ‘Kalawa Chikita’ was sure to be a smash hit. Banomoya is a catchy song.

Manqonqo feat Dason and Saviour Gee –

An instant hit! Eyadini is a gqom’ song that praises the popular shisanyama spot, Eyadini Lounge in umlazi, Durban. It’s an impressive sing along track that you can add to your playlist.

AKA feat Kiddominant –

The video might be disappointing but this song is a hit and sure to be a classic. AKA has a monster hit here. The best song on his album.

Vusi Nova feat Jessica Mbangeni –

Asiphelelanga has got to be the stand out single from Nova’s recent album titled Manyan Nyan.

The song pays tribute to late South African musicians, and people are loving it.

Through his powerful vocals, he gave us a hit. Sure, it may sometimes be repetitive, but isn’t that what all great summer songs are? Repetitive earworms.

Malumz on Decks & Gino Brown feat Mr Vince –

I did not expect the Shayi Number sound coming from Malumz on Decks. I’m loving it. I know them as a deep and soulful house type duo hence it came as a shock to me when they released this Afro house track. I love it, South Africa loves it and is sure to cause “problems” on the dance floor this festive season.

Abathandwa –

This song has put the gospel group in the spotlight. It is one of the biggest songs to come out of SA this year and is becoming quite popular. Even house and hip-hop music DJ’S cannot miss dropping this hit song during their performances, even at the club.

The last gospel song to crossover to the club was Kirk Franklin’s Stomp.

Dladla Mshunqisi ft Professor –

The noisy Mshunqisi is a gqom’ hitmaker. Last year he gave us Omunye, a collaboration with Distruction Boyz and which took the title of Record of the Year at the Samas.

This year he is back with Amalukuluku taken from his debut album Umshunqo.

The song is relatively new but it’s a potential club hit. This will be our party anthem this festive season.

King Monada –

Ever since its release a few weeks ago, this song has put people in the festive mood.

With this song, King Monada is warning his partner that she should not break up with him because he would faint and funny enough the whole country is now collapsing all in the name of Malwedhe (sickness).

The dance is called ‘Idibala’ and has gone viral, with people posting themselves dancing (or rather, falling) to the song.

Honourable mentions Holly Rey – Deeper

Manu Worldstar – Nalingi

DJ Tira feat Tipcee, Babes Wodumo & Mampintsha – It’s still to be released, but will be a hit knowing how magic DJ Tira is in the studio.
