King Cetshwayo top domestic club table this season

- THAHIR ASMAL

WHILE the spotlight is on the inaugural edition of the Mzansi Super League, South Africa’s version of the Indian Premier League, the show must go on in the lower levels of the game.

The domestic club cricket season entered its third round of action last weekend. Rain last Sunday saw only two matches played to completion.

Amanzimtoti registered the biggest win of the round with a nine-wicket victory over African Warriors.

Keenan Moses (40) stood tall with the bat while others perished around him as Warriors were bowled out for 113. Adam Mather was destructive with the ball, and claimed three wickets for 25 from his 10 overs.

Jared Michaux scored an unbeaten 73 and was well supported by James Taylor (35*) in leading Toti’s charge to a comprehensive win.

King Cetshwayo shot to the top of the table with a third straight victory. They easily got the better of the Pinetown side that was bowled out for 102.

The north coast club’s opening pair, Melvyn Jackson (53*) and Zakhele Ntuli (46*) then smashed Pinetown’s bowlers around the park for a 10-wicket victory.

Wet weather affected the match between Delta and Berea Rovers with the latter winning thanks to a better run-rate.

Zakaria Paruk (36) and Junaid Syed (44) helped Delta to a total of 165 for 8 but the in-form Blayde Cappel’s (77*) got Rovers to a commanding position before the rain came down. At 149 for four, Rovers were well on par to reach their target. Crusaders won in similar fashion, although their opponents, Clares, would have felt that they could have got something from the game.

Abdul Hack-razak top scored with an undefeated 42 for Clares as they set a low target of 138. Tyron Koen and Keith Dudgeon both bowled well, grabbing three wickets apiece.

In response, Crusaders were ahead on run rate at 87 for five when the umpires stopped play.

Elsewhere, Chatsworth Sporting and UKZN shared the points in a washout.
