Hollywood is ‘Mcdonald’s of violence’

KNOWN as a master maker of action movies in Hindi cinema, film-maker Anurag Kashyap has expressed his thoughts on the violence staged in Hollywood. He believes American movies don’t really explore violence.

According to Kashyap, Hollywood movies focus more on commercialisation.

“America is always in the middle ground; they always borrow from everywhere and make it more palatable and commercial but they don’t really explore violence, barring a few movies. They know how to commercialise everything, they are the Mcdonald’s version of action and violence,” he said in an interview.

Be it movies, Gangs of Wasseypur or web shows, Sacred Games, 46-yearold Kashyap never misses a chance to include violence, killings and brutal scenes in his projects.

Sharing his thoughts on violence, the director revealed that he doesn’t like the way violence is depicted in mainstream and superhero movies because they don’t show its depth.

“I like the idea of taking people through what are most likely their worst fears. I get irritated when I see celebratory violence in mainstream movies or the superhero movies. It’s the type of violence that makes you feel like you want to become a hero and get into a fight.

“My idea of creating violence is to put the viewer off it, where it disturbs them,” Kashyap added.
