When was the last time you attended a music concert/festival and who was performing? Sanele Phalathi at the Jazzy Rainbow.

Earliest memory you have of Durban? When we used to walk with an old friend from our place at Esther Roberts to UKZN Howard College was so hard for us because of the steep hill and distance.

If you were mayor for the day, what would you do? I would ban fake jazz festivals and allow artists to get funding for projects and tours and also open live music venues that are funded.

Your favourite hangout spot in Durban? The

UKZN Centre for Jazz every Wednesday does the thing.

Who do you call when you want to have fun and where in the city do you go? I call my friends Ayanda Thango and Zoe Masuku, we do the beach or just hang indoors, great company.

Favourite Durban store to shop? I like hand-crafted things so those guys by the roads and robots.

Which is your favourite market in Durban? Victoria Street Market.

Which building in Durban would you like to own? The Playhouse.

What’s the one thing people need to stop doing in Durban? Competing with each other.

Where is the best view of Durban? The rooftop of a building in Glenwood. You see the whole of Durban’s beauty.

What’s the one thing that differenti­ates Durban from other cities in South Africa? The culture, I love how people are still just proud of who they are and still practice that.

Where would you suggest first time visitors to the city go, to get the best experience of the city? If you’ve never been to the beach, go to the beach, go for the boat rides, and visit Ushaka Marine World.
