Stained-glass windows make stately Bulwer house special

-

AN ATTRACTIVE double-storey residence in Durban’s picturesque Bulwer suburb, which recalls a bygone era, is among the lots for Ian Wyles Auctioneers’ multi-property auction on January 30 at 11am at Durban Country Club.

Andrew Giddy, property manager at Ian Wyles, says the property at 77 Cato Road is typical of many houses in one of Durban’s oldest suburbs. “The house has many colonial-style features no longer seen in modern houses and includes stained-glass windows and doors. High ceilings make the rooms look larger and keep the property cooler on hot days.”

He says the house’s three large bedrooms, spacious main en suite and family bathroom would suit most families.

“The lounge leads to a small pub with colourful stained-glass double doors opening onto a large covered veranda. The large kitchen and adjacent dining room also feature bay windows, lofty ceilings and romantic fire places.

“There are neat private gardens at both front and rear, as well as secure parking for three cars, in addition to a lock-up garage. This welcoming house will tick most boxes for potential buyers.”

Tree-lined Bulwer is a central Durban suburb with easy access to the city centre, beaches and other tourist attractions.

“The area’s atmosphere is decidedly trendy with popular restaurants, cafés, coffee bars, off-beat shops, art galleries and antique stores.

“The suburb has an eco-friendly and environmental lifestyle and, with good schools and the University of Kwazulunatal close by, it is now popular with property buyers. We have already experienced strong interest in the Cato Road house,” Giddy says.
