The River scoops 10 golden horns

-

1MAGIC’S telenovela The River bagged 10 golden horns at the 13th annual SA Film and Television Awards last night.

The show’s Moshidi Motshegwa was crowned best actress in a telenovela for her role as Malefu, beating fellow actress Sindi Dlathu, who plays Lindiwe Dlamini in the same show.

The show’s win comes after controversy over the creative team and Motshegwa, who said she was axed due to a feud with lead star Larona Moagi, who played the role of her adopted daughter.

Among The River’s pool of telenovela winners was rising star Lawrence Maleka, who scooped the best supporting actor award, while colleague Presley Chueneyagae bagged best actor. The River’s executive producer, Phathutshedzo Makwarela, said the team deserved the plaudits.

“It was exciting seeing the joy in my teammates when they picked up the awards. These people put their heart and soul in the project in the past year to ensure the show became a success,” he said.

Makwarela said Motshegwa could make a return to the show in the coming months.

“The character of Malefu is critical and she still exists.

“Besides, life is long enough to mend bridges, so Malefu could reappear in or six month,” he said. Mzansi Magic’s Isithembiso and

Lockdown received four gongs each.
