Born to refurbish the classics

- ASHWEN SINGH FORD SEDAN

I HAVE always been a huge fan of what some might refer to as old-school classic cars.

The cars, which are often associated with those produced in the ’60s, ’70s and early ’80s, reference a period where car ownership was considered by many to be a lifetime partnership.

Last week we featured Ronnie Chetty’s gorgeous modded 1966 Ford Cortina GT. This week we feature yet another immaculate instance of the coveted classic Ford, with this one belonging to previously featured, Chetty’s son, Diven Chetty, 29, a panel beater from Effingham in nothern Durban. As the saying goes “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”.

Chetty’s impeccable example of one of the most contemporary sought-after classic sedans features its standard factory-issued, 1500cc four cylinder, carburettor-fed power plant mated to one of Ford’s famous four-speed “bullet” gearboxes with an upgraded differential. The set-up also includes some slightly modified internals, among them a performance cam, a standard branch and a toneworthy Tommy’s performance exhaust system.

In terms of ride height, he opted for enhancements in the braking system and the suspension.

His fantastic Ford also fuses the form and functional merits of a terrific set of 13-inch Compomotive mag wheels mated to a tetrad of Hifly 185 60 13 rubbers.

The inside of his Cortina flaunts a refurbished “close to” original specification interior complete with replacement of the front seats. The Ford rocks with a decent audio set-up – a Kenwood MP3 player, a set of 6x9 speakers and a 12-inch subwoofer.

“I was born with these cars, working with my brother and dad… I would like to continue the legacy as we have a few more builds to do,” Chetty said.
