An Opel 200is designed to turn heads

- ASHWEN SINGH

THOSE who can recall the ‘80s and ‘90s may still remember how desirable the Opel brand used to be among the performance obsessed.

Badges like the GTE, GSI, Superbosss, 160is and, more relevant to today’s feature, the 200is, were just some of Opel’s plethora of highly coveted performance badges.

Graphic designer Niven Mudely, 32, a fellow “petrol head” from Queensburgh, in Durban, is the owner of the Opel Kadett 200is Euro.

Mudely’s car boasts the performance likes of Opel’s 2.0 fuel injected power plant. Performance is augmented by way of fitment of a performance branch manifold, as well as the installation of a Dastek Unichip engine management system.

Aesthetically, the exterior of this Opel flaunts a complete professional paint work upgrade in “Nissan Skyline R34” Electric blue. The paintwork was further paired to canary yellow detailing on the side mirrors, the inside of the bonnet, the windscreen wipers, as well as the front lip. The car’s sporty exterior is further accentuated through the fitment of a sunroof, in addition to performance relevant signage.

This 200is additionally features the form and functional merits of a set of 17-inch Volk mag wheels, which are paired to a tetrad of 205/40/17 Bridgestone rubbers.

Acoustically, Mudely’s 200is is kitted out with a sound install, comprising a Pioneer head unit, a set of Pioneer 6-inch mid-range speakers, a quartet of Pioneer 6x9’s, Super Tweeters, a 12-inch subwoofer and a Linertec amplifier. The install further boasts a custom boot setup, with a full lighting install – which extends into the cabin of the vehicle.

An undisclosed amount of money was spent on this build.
