Dancer off to LA world champs
DANVILLE Park Girls High School pupil Camishka Marimuthu, 16, is flying to Los Angeles, USA, today to represent South Africa in the World Championships of Performing Arts.
Marimuthu, who is in Grade
11, will participate in four dance categories; ethnic, musical character, cheer dance and hip hop. Marimuthu is thrilled with the opportunity.
“I started to dance when I was 3 and it has always been my passion. I don’t know if it will be part of my career but it will always be part of my life.”
Her mom Ferina, who will be accompanying her to assist with her hair and make-up, said she was probably more nervous than her daughter and had made several lists to ensure that nothing important was forgotten.
“I’m so proud of her and super excited. A lot of time and effort goes into preparing for it.”
Ferina said her daughter would miss out on three weeks of school but she had always excelled academically and had also received a lot of notes and assistance from her teachers to ensure that she didn’t lose out on too much school work.
