Where to party in Durban

- LUTHO PASIYA

THE festive season in Durban is, undoubtedly, a very exciting time. The city is always buzzing with activities and parties, and you will not be short of options.

If you have not yet made plans for the biggest party day of 2019, New Year’s Eve, here are a few places in and around Durban that may be great venues at which to count down to 2020.

BALLITO STREET PARTY

The party is in its 15th year and sees people coming from far and wide, to gather in the bustling coastal town of Ballito for New Year’s Eve. The event is for people over 18 years of age, no food and drinks are allowed into the venue, no weapons, no illegal substances, and you will not be able to enter without your identity document in hand. There will be 40 DJS and three stages. Tickets available at Webtickets.

FACT DURBAN ROCKS

Mthokozisi Khathi known as DJ Tira and his music label Afrotainment’s annual year-end party, Fact Durban Rocks, is set to, once again, be a huge bang this year. Taking place at People’s Park, in Moses Mabhida Stadium, goers have an option to choose which of the three stages they will be at or, better, they can move between them. Choose from the Fact Main Stage, DJ Tira’s Gqom Is Life Stage, and Black Coffee’s Africa Is Not A Jungle Stage. Artists include DJ Tira, Black Coffee, Nasty C, Sho Madjozi, Sun El Musician, Naakmusiq and Tellaman. Tickets available at Webtickets.

NEW YEAR’S EVE BLOCK PARTY

Tiger Tiger will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Block Party, which will be headlined by electronic DJ and producer Timo ODV, pictured. There will be no under 18s allowed inside the venue and tickets are available at www.howler.co.za.

EKASI NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY

If you want a township experience with shisanyama, Eyadini Lounge – in the heart of umlazi – will be hosting an Ekasi New Year’s Eve Party. Eyadini Lounge is known for putting together one of the biggest performances, and hosting local and internationally recognised entertainers, and New Year’s Eve will be no different.
