Timeless design with infinite options
ONE can only wonder what the world of hot hatches would be like without the presence of the Volkswagen Citi Golf.
The Citi has become somewhat of a rite of passage to both petrol heads and pragmatic commuters alike. Its success among its peers is owed to the vehicle’s styling and its seemingly unlimited potential for performance scalability.
This week’s featured ride is a “Hotted Hatchback” 1997 Volkswagen Citi Golf Chico 1.3.
Owned by 20-year-old Levin Goberdin, of Phoenix, this Citi boasts the mechanical likes of Volkswagen’s trusty and adequately powered factory fitted 1300cc, normally aspirated, carburettor fed power plant. Performance to this unit was effectively augmented by a performance exhaust installation.
As far as ride height is concerned, this Citi boasts the form and functional merits of a Maxtrac fully adjustable coil-over suspension system, mated to a set of YKW 15-inch 8.5J mag wheels, with 165/40/15 rubbers.
The exterior of this Citi showcases an exceptional “ice white” paint job, as well as an upgraded front bumper with a MK2 front spoiler. The car sports a set of “smoked and crossed” headlights, as well as a set of smoked tail lights.
The interior of Goberdin’s Volkswagen is host to a suite of red leather furnishings.
Acoustically this Chico boasts a Star Sound head unit, a set of Pioneer 6x9’s and mids, as well as a Starsound 4000w amplifier.
An undisclosed amount of money was spent on this build.
