Rakesh’s Polo pulls a gargantuan whip
The VW Polo has become one of the top selling passenger cars in this country, offering the potential for virtually infinite performance scalability.
There are many paths that can lead one to becoming a “petrol head”. Ten years ago, Rakesh Harisunker, now 38, chose to give up consuming alcohol.
In his bid to replace alcohol with something constructive, Harisunker began dabbling in car customisation.
The Phoenix manager of a local automotive service, maintenance and repair company, Harisunker’s 2013 Volkswagen Polo 1.6 is this week’s featured “My Sweet Ride”.
Mechanically, Harisunker’s
Polo is equipped with the stock Volkswagen 1.6-litre, fuel injected, normally aspirated power plant. Power to this unit was enhanced by a performance exhaust system.
As far as the vehicle’s ride height is concerned, this prodigious Polo sports an awesome Castor Air suspension system. The suspension is paired to a set of 17-inch HRE mag wheels, mated to a tetrad of 185 35 17 rubbers.
The exterior of this Polo boasts a “Bat Wing” boot fin, a MK6R spoiler kit, a set of custom badges with the “Batman” logo, as well as a host of exterior graphics.
Acoustically, this Polo rocks out with a Star Sound double din head unit, a Kicker 10-inch subwoofer, a quartet of Digital Design mids, and a set of Pioneer tweeters.
The install also boasts a custom boot set-up, which includes a smoke machine, a pair of DV screens and laser lights.
Harisunker is a member of the Durban contingent of the “Grounded Nation” car club, which consists mainly of a collective of enthusiasts, with a special interest in vehicles with lowered suspensions.
