The Fashion Yearbook 2021 by Julia Zirpel and Fiona Hayes 2020 tested the fashion media industry in a major way. And yet, this also allowed the industry to quickly find new ways of doing things. The book features some of the best editorials, covers and campaigns of 2020, expertly chosen by an internatio­nal jury of 12 fashion media leaders, including South Africa’s Asanda Sizani.

No Filter with Naomi (Youtube) This Youtube talk show is one of the best celebrity talk shows available right now. Hosted by supermodel Naomi Campbell, it features her conversati­ons with other A-listers and rising stars. Watching Naomi wear her “journalist” hat is fascinatin­g, as she is able to get some interestin­g details from her guests. While most of them may be her friends, they all take the platform and the show very seriously, which results in great conversati­ons.

Jon Savage’s ... What's Your Poison I am pretty late to the party, but I am glad I have caught up. Musician and broadcaste­r Jon Savage has one of the best pop culture adjacent podcasts in SA. He interviews news makers, from fellow musicians and broadcaste­rs to comedians, actors and magicians. It’s a must-listen.

Swirl (Showmax) Featuring an all-star cast of Vinette Ebrahim, Ilse Klink, Shaleen Surtie-richards and rising star Chanelle Davids, Swirl is about hairdresse­r Elaine Williams, who has to navigate the sometimes tricky and treacherou­s terrain in the wild landscape of hair on the Cape Flats. It’s a love letter to hair, while also reminding us of the politics of hair. Directed by Quanita Adams.
