The Stranger In The Lifeboat by Mitch Albom (R270 on Loot.co.za) The Stranger in the Lifeboat is not only a deeply moving novel about the power of love and hope in the face of danger, but also a mystery that will keep you guessing to the very end.
Adrift in a raft after a terrible shipwreck, 10 strangers try to survive while they wait to be rescued. After three days, short on water, food and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves. They pull him on board – and the survivor claims he can save them. But should they put their trust in him? Will any of them see home again?
And why did the ship really sink?
After Life (Netflix)
Grief. It sneaks up on you and changes everything about you. One second you are happy and living a full life. And then, the next second, you lose someone you love. That’s the story of Ricky Gervais’s After Life, a dark satire on coping with grief and life.
His character, Tony, is not dealing with his grief and he contemplates suicide. He takes on a new don’t-care attitude while the people around him try to save him. However, bitter, angry and upset, he still makes fun of people, of course, (including Kevin Hart, James Corden and Sir Kenneth Branagh). It’s a great show to binge.
I Need You by Lungelo Manzi
A friend’s son was playing this song on his phone a few weeks ago, introducing me to the talent that is Lungelo Manzi. The Durbanbased rapper, singer, producer and songwriter is one of the rising stars on the local music scene, and one I expect to be in the national conversation soon. I Need You is the perfect introduction to what he can do – showcasing his skills as a singer and rapper. Look out for this talent.
