Border posts to open as shutdown ends

-

AFTER two years of the shutdown of all secondary land border posts of South Africa with neighbouring countries, the Department of Home Affairs has decided to reopen them.

The 32 land border posts were closed in March 2020 due to Covid-19.

Only major border posts, like Beitbridge, Lebombo, Farazella, Oshoek, Mahamba and Golela, were open.

Among the secondary border posts that will be reopened after more than two years of no activity is Onverwacht/ Nsalitje near Pongola. The border post is mainly used by mining specialists.

The Sani Pass border in the Drakensberg mountains on the KZN side will be fully reopened.

Travellers to Mozambique will benefit as the border posts of Pafuri and Giriyondo are reopened.

Bray and Makopong, among the 13 Botswana-south Africa crossings which were closed, will also open, as will Alexander Bay, which links South Africa with Namibia.
