KUSHAL Paul, an artist from India, says local fans can expect the unexpected, from golden oldies to new generation music, when he performs in Durban.

Paul will perform in A Tribute to Icons show at The Globe at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday.

Playback singer Maithili Shome, who is eloquent in 20 different languages, and Paul will perform songs of the late icons, Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri and KK.

Shome represented South Africa in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016, a singing reality show of India. She also participated in the Zee TV Swarna Swar Bharat 2022 Season 1 as a wild-card contestant,

“I am excited that Maithili and I will be bringing the best of these legends. In 2016, Maithili was with us in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and she was the youngest. We had so much fun that time. Our stage chemistry is so nice and brings energy,” said Paul, a twotime Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner in Zee TV and Zee TV Bengali.

Paul, who is Mumbai-based, said: “Fans can expect the unexpected, starting from golden oldies and golden duets to 1980s hits, disco, romance and new generation music.”

He said Sa Re Ga Ma Pa was a platform which helped him take his music to millions.

“For the last seven years, I have done more than 500 shows. l feel the stage is the place. One has to sing from the heart. Music becomes unforgettable when it is sung from the heart and reaches the heart of the audience and fans.

“The songs coming out in our generation are quite technical and awareness is quite high. The audience knows what they want, so musicians have to keep evolving and rediscover themselves,” said Paul.

Farzana Mayet, of Panache International, promoters of the show, said: “No stranger to any music lover, Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri and KK have all provided millions with countless hours of memorable music.”
