Sunday Tribune - - FRONT PAGE -

THE family of a teenager embroiled in a homophobic and racist Twitter rant against TV personality Somizi Mhlongo, claim she’s living in fear after receiving death threats.

Lia Meyer’s, family have hired a well-known public relations practitioner to implement damage control.

Her family said Meyer, 19, recieved death threats on social media, including images of men holding guns, spears and axes directed at her on Twitter. An inflammatory tweet was posted from her account on Tuesday about the flamboyant celebrity who hosted the Samas at the weekend. It read: “Isn’t @somizi like a homosexual k ***** tjie? (sic)”.

Meyer denied sending it, claiming her account was hacked. Yesterday, she laid charges at Cape Town Central police station, requesting an investigation into a breach of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002. Mhlongo asked his 1.18 million Twitter followers to track her down, saying: “Jail awaits her.” – Luke Folb
